This painting was inspired by a feeling of escape and luck. In 2011, my husband and I were extremely lucky to have survived a particularly disastrous white water rafting trip with a reputable local company. There were many incidents on this particular trip but the main event was everyone in the raft survived going under a log jam. On the creaky old school bus taking us to the drop in point, 50KMs into the back country, a white horse was in the dirt road, trotting towards us, mane flying, dust billowing behind it. It looked etherial. In hindsight, you could have said it was a warning of danger coming, as I believe wild mustangs represent death in some cultures. To me, it was majestic and I'll always view a white horse as freedom and luck and thank my lucky stars for letting me live to paint another day.
