Yon Two Crows was inspired by the Mark Knopfler folk song of the same title. He describes it as a song about the life and grind of a hill farmer, but following the lyrics, I think the concept could be applied to the grind of anyone's daily life. After describing a scene of hard work against the elements, the last verse is the part that really speaks to me, as it's a message of hope, persistence and perseverance;

"And I raise my flask
To the clearing skies
To you, sweepers
You carrion spies
To scavenge and survive
If you can do it so can I"

With this in mind, I wanted the colours in my painting to be more muted but still bright and hopeful, to reflect the essence of the song.
